Her with Me

Project Statement:

Beyond telling a story with each series I embark on, I remain aware of the importance of connecting my real-life experiences to the work I create. Her with Me is a series that delves deep into a source of strength I have established as I continue on this journey with my mental health— friends.

Over the last five years, I have gained and lost women in my life whose shoulders I have come to see as home, whose hands have formed a habit of wiping my tears, and whose hugs have become a pacifier to my pain.

Her with Me shows women embracing, holding, or simply being in each other’s presence. This series was shot in different parks around the city of Atlanta and the decision to use nature as a backdrop reflects the peace I feel when surrounded by ‘her’. Flowers are a repeated motif which symbolizes the tenderness and fragility I feel adjacent to the warmth and beauty these women exude. With May being Mental Health Awareness month, this project feels timely, relevant, and raw.
